Apple: Mac Mini and MacBook Pro with the new M2 processors
Apple introduced its new M2 generation processors in Cupertino last night. As with the M1 chip, the M2 also has two additional expansion stages that provide greater performance with more processor circuitry. As with the M1, these expansion stages are called Pro and Ultra. Appropriately, new hardware has also been introduced, and it is equipped accordingly. It’s a new version of the Mac Mini desktop computer with the M2 and M2 Pro chip, as well as new versions of the 14- and 16-inch laptops in the MacBook Pro line.
Thanks to the energy-efficient performance of Apple chips, the M2 Max can quickly handle graphics-intensive projects while providing excellent battery life.
New laptops, new desktops
Apple introduces the MacBook Pro with the M2 Pro and M2 Max, with unprecedented performance and the longest battery life ever in a Mac. Equipped like this, the new generation MacBook Pro has up to 6 times faster performance than the previous fastest MacBook Pro with an Intel processor. Up to 96GB of shared memory is now supported for demanding professional workflows. Other than that, the MacBooks are pretty much identical to the previous model with the M1 chipset, both internally and externally.
Apple also unveiled a new Mac Mini with the M2 and M2 Pro, which is, of course, too — more powerful, more versatile, and offers more capabilities — all more than ever before, Apple points out. The Mac mini is now even cheaper.
New M2 chips
Apple today announced the M2 Pro and M2 Max, two next-generation SoCs (systems on a chip) that take the industry-leading power-efficient performance of Apple chipsets to a new level. The M2 Pro expands the M2 architecture to a CPU up to 12 cores and a GPU up to 19 cores, with up to 32GB of fast shared memory. The M2 Max builds on the power of the M2 Pro with up to a 38-core GPU, twice the shared memory bandwidth, and up to 96GB of shared memory. Its industry-leading performance per watt makes it the world’s most powerful and energy-efficient chip in any professional laptop. Both chips also offer improved proprietary technologies, including a faster 16-core Neural Engine and Apple’s powerful Media Engine. M2 Pro brings professional performance for the first time mac miniwhile the M2 Pro and M2 Max offer impressive performance and capabilities 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pro Take it to a whole new level.
