Everything everywhere at once It won four awards, including Best Picture, at the 2023 Critics’ Choice Awards.

The blockbuster comedy-drama written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert scooped 14 nominations and took home four awards at the Stars’ Gala at Los Angeles’ Fairmont Century Plaza on Sunday, January 15.

The lineup of films also included Best Director and Best Original Screenplay from the powerhouse duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.

The duo beat stiff competition from filmmaking legends like James Cameron, Baz Luhrmann, and Steven Spielberg for the previous award, and in disbelief, Scheinert showed the audience the envelope with their names and quipped, “It’s not wrong!”

He continued to honor his fellow nominees and joked that he was “disgusted” by the duo – known as Daniels and beginning to make music videos – even in the same category as their idols.

He said, “Thank you to all the storytellers and directors who inspire me to become a filmmaker – you’re in the same category as me. That sucks! Hello?! But you inspired me, and it means a lot. And your films changed my life.”

Kwan went on to thank his mother for inspiring Michelle Yeoh’s character Evelyn Wang.

He said, “She was the first to plant a seed in my head so I could be a director.

“she [is] She may be the first Asian American immigrant mother to tell her son to go to film school.”

Ke Huy Quan won Best Supporting Actor and the film also won Best Editing.

Angela Bassett won Best Supporting Actress for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Whale Star Brendan Fraser W storehouse Cate Blanchett won Best Actress and Best Actress, respectively.

Glass Onion: Takes the mystery out of the cutlery It was named Best Comedy and also won Best Ensemble Cast.

Daniel Radcliffe took home the award for Best Actor in a Limited Series or Television Film for his titular role in Stranger: The Yankovic Story, which also won the award for Best TV Movie.

Jeff Bridges was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, while the SeeHer Award went to Janelle Monáe.

The ceremony was hosted by comedian Chelsea Handler.
