According to Firkus, what will happen after the summer is still quite open-ended. Because: So far, none of the VfL superstars has explicitly ruled out a contract extension. “I can only stress once again that we know that both contracts are about to expire. We also know that they are both very good players and very desirable. In spite of everything, we will do everything we can to convince them to stay.”
However, he does not yet know if Borussia will succeed. “I can’t tell you now. I can’t promise that they’ll both continue to play football with us next summer. However, we keep trying to get them to stay – even after this season. And then we’ll see what happens.”
