Handball World Cup 2023 schedule: dates, status and telecast
The 28th World Handball Championship will run from January 11 to January 29, 2023. The tournament will be held in Poland and Sweden. t-online shows you the schedule, mode and where to watch the event on TV.
The most important things at a glance
In Group E, the German national team will face Qatar (January 13), Serbia (January 15) and Algeria (January 17). In the event that the DHB team reaches the main round, potential opponents from the Netherlands, Norway, North Macedonia and Argentina are waiting.
Handball World Cup 2023 format
For the second time only, the World Handball Championship is being held with the participation of 32 countries. Four teams play in eight preliminary round groups. The top three teams from each group will advance to the round of 16. This creates four groups of six teams. This main tour will take place in Malmö, Gothenburg, Katowice and Krakow.
After the main round comes the quarter-finals with the first and second place winners in each group. Then the knockout system is applied there. The fourth-place finisher from the preliminary round plays in two groups of four in the Presidents’ Cup 25-30 World Series.

Where is the Handball World Cup shown on TV?
The tournament will be broadcast live on free-to-air TV. The public broadcasters ARD and ZDF show the matches of the DHB team. Eurosport sports channel also broadcasts 15 matches from other countries without German participation. All Handball World Cup matches are shown by the paid broadcast service Sportdeutschland.tv.
