- It can now become dangerous in a second – both for the club and for many (ex) players.
- Bayern Munich star Matthijs de Ligt was also affected.
cheating scandal Juventus Turin Draws more circles: now threatens then
Juventus received a severe penalty on January 20: the club has been deducted 15 points in the current Serie A season. The background is allegations that Juventus manipulated the market values of their players and thus obliterated the club’s balance sheets. In the 2018 to 2020 financial years alone, accounting is said to have been overhauled by more than 100 million euros. The referees of the Italian Football Federation Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio (FIGC) saw this as proven.
There is another accusation in the room: during the Corona pandemic, the Bianconeri agreed with some players to temporarily reduce their monthly salaries – but in some cases continued to pay them illegally, thus smuggling millions of euros through the tax authorities. The club denies this.
Among the players affected were Ronaldo and D.I
Players involved threatened with 30-day ban – De Ligt will miss duel with PSG
Players can also be declared suspended if they are no longer contracted to Juventus – as in the case of Ronaldo or De Ligt, who moved from Turin to Bayern Munich last summer.
There is a 30-day ban in the room, as reported by “Il Fatto Quotidiano” Paolo Ziliani and “La Repubblica” journalist.
If that works out and depending on the time, the Dutch defender will not only be absent from Bayern in the Bundesliga. He is also likely to miss the Champions League last-16 matches against Paris Saint-Germain on February 14 and March 8.
It remains unclear whether FIFA and UEFA will recognize and enforce the ruling of the FIFA Court of Appeal. However, the European Continental Union is currently scrutinizing the Italians’ finances. The Public Prosecutor’s Office is also conducting the investigation.
Many media – including “Sports Courier“- suppose the” old lady “is threatened with even more trouble: there is talk of another 15-point deduction, forced relegation from Serie A, and high fines, up to three times the amount evaded.
Cristiano Ronaldo is considering filing a case against Juventus
Juventus Turin theoretically wanted to pay cut salaries in the Corona crisis after the end of the epidemic. At least in the case of Cristiano Ronaldo, this does not seem to have happened: according to La Repubblica, the striker is considering a civil case against his former club. He still owes him a salary of €19.6m.
However, it appears that the Portuguese never signed the salary cut agreement. Corriere della Sera received an amendment to the contract – only the signatures of club officials can be seen on it.
What could benefit Ronaldo: Torino also did not report their wage-waiver agreements to the FIGC – which is why players who signed the deal face a 30-day ban.
Juventus Turin wants to take action against the penalty
Meanwhile, the record-breaking Italian soccer champion wants to appeal to the Italian Olympic Committee’s Supreme Sports Court. On January 20, the Court of Appeal of the FIGC confirmed the previous court’s ruling – and with it a 15-point deduction.
The federation also imposed a prolonged ban on eleven members of the club’s previous administration, including former president Andrea Agnelli (24 months) and his deputy, Pavel Nedved (eight months). Both of them later quit. The club is now awaiting publication of the reasons for the ruling and has 30 days to appeal to the Supreme Sports Court.
“Faced with the injustices we have suffered, the club will defend itself as one,” said new club president Gianluca Ferrero in an interview with the pros. Today, more than ever, you represent millions of fans around the world.
If the penalty continues, the Turinites have little chance of a place in the European Cup. Coach Massimiliano Allegri said the team must accept the decision for now and get as many points as possible on the pitch. A new decision on punishment can be expected “within two months at the earliest”.
