Tanner Thorson dominates Thursday’s Chilean Bowl qualifiers — plus full scores
Tulsa, Oklahoma. —Putting things into overdrive Saturday night, Tanner Thorson gave notice with an absolutely dominating performance on Thursday’s John Christner Trucks playoff night at the 37th annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire.
What looked like a rocky start to his lap night in the OERB Heat Race, Thorson immediately bounced back to win his opening stints from the competition. From sixth to second in Team Toyota’s qualifier, from there, it’s the lights out for the No. 88 Maestro Classic/Bob Hurley RV.
“I thought my preliminary night was over at the start of this heat race. I was just waiting to get hit, and luckily I didn’t and I was able to keep going,” Thorson said at the start of his night.
Working the top of the Tulsa Expo racetrack on all ends, the No. 88 went unchallenged through four cautions, with each caution holding off the leaders from encountering traffic. He slowed for the last time on lap 24, the gap over second grew to 1.376 seconds by the end.
I chased AME Electric No. 19t finished all 30 laps by Emerson Axsom, and was second for the entire race. Battle through several restarts for width position, the point finally moved to fifth, where Brady Bacon, who made a pass on lap 24, started. Tim Bockwalter made it fourth from ninth, with Tanner Carrick rolling from 11th to fifth.
The race, with Bacon in third from the start, brought Sarf out of his groove and he dropped to sixth. Chase Johnson, who finished seventh, was being chased by California’s Ryan Bernal, who came from 17th to eighth. Dominic Jordan and Joe B. Miller rounded out the top ten.
The John Christner Trucking qualifying night featured 72 drivers, bringing the event’s total to 289 drivers for the week.
