Patitz was born in Hamburg on March 25, 1966 to an Estonian mother and German father, and was raised in Sweden. As a child she was an avid racer. In the early 1980s, she participated in a beauty pageant in Sweden and won third place. However, it took a while before her career really took off — thanks mainly to photos taken by star photographer Lindbergh. “People have always told me I look special, that I don’t look like everyone else,” Patitz once told Vogue. “And that’s why I’m going to do it.”
Patitz never saw himself as a true part of the supermodel clique. “It was never friendship, we lived very different lives,” the model once told the German news agency. Patitz moved to the beach in Malibu, California, and also landed a few movie roles.
