Coronation of King Charles III. It is the first in the UK in 70 years. But it should not be limited to the ceremony alone. There will be festivities for three days. Many of the elements on the program are reminiscent of the Queen’s 70th birthday celebrations.

A concert and big street parties are set across the UK to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. to be celebrated. The Palace announced details of the May 6-8 coronation long weekend Sunday night. Accordingly, the ceremony itself will take place on Saturday morning in London’s Westminster Abbey. There, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, will crown Charles and his queen, Camilla.

It is the first coronation of a British monarch in 70 years. Charles’ mother, Queen Elizabeth II, was also crowned in Westminster Abbey on June 2, 1953. She died on September 8, 2022. Since then, her eldest son has been king.

The palace said it would be a service that would reflect the king’s role today and look to the future, but would also be rooted in ancient traditions and processions. It was “an occasion for celebration and pomp”.

Charles and Camilla will parade from Buckingham Palace to church and then back to the City Palace, accompanied by other members of the royal family. There, the royal family themselves will appear before spectators on the balcony at the end of the festivities.

Harry’s invitation is questionable

It is still not clear which family member will be there. It is questionable whether Charles’s youngest son, Prince Harry, and his wife, Duchess Meghan, will be invited to the coronation. Harry made serious allegations against the minors and his family in his recently published autobiography, Reserve. Harry and Meghan traveled to London to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the throne of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, in June 2022. However, at that time, only the closest family members were present on the balcony, carrying out acting functions. The couple had given up their royal duties.

Dozens of heads of state from around the world and tens of thousands of visitors are expected to arrive in London this weekend. British Culture Secretary Michelle Donnellan spoke of a “huge achievement in the history of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth”. It celebrates the “blend of tradition, modernity, culture and community that make our country great”.

The festivities continue beyond the ceremony itself. The palace further announced that a major concert with “world music icons and contemporary stars” is scheduled at Windsor Castle on Sunday in honor of the royal couple. The announced light effects bring back memories of the Queen’s anniversary party in front of Buckingham Palace. Thousands of tickets will be raffled across the country. A Coronation Choir will be formed specifically for the event, which will include members of several private choirs – such as refugees, members of the LGBTQ+ community or the hearing impaired.

Sunday’s Grand Coronation Dinner

Throughout Sunday, people were invited to street festivals and tea parties for the “great coronation lunch”. She added that thousands of events are expected nationwide. This was also something similar on Queen Elizabeth’s anniversary this past weekend.

Because of the coronation, people in the UK are also getting a one-off holiday on the 8th of May. Under the motto “Big Help” (Big Help), residents of the day are encouraged to learn about volunteer work in their communities. The government is also considering plans to extend pub closing hours to three nights at weekends.
