“Love & Money” is the title of Katie Melua’s upcoming studio album “Nine Million Bicycles”. With the song “Golden Record” there is already a first impression of her. The accompanying clip celebrates its premiere on ntv.de.

Many people can still sing along to “Nine Million Bicycles.” The song, which was released in 2005, is a few years old. But Katie Melua, who was born in Georgia and has lived in Great Britain since she was a child, may never have looked into the singles charts either. Instead, the 38-year-old singer has blossomed into a so-called classic album artist. And so with bubbles.

Melua has already bagged a whopping 56 Platinum Awards in her career so far. Not to mention the gold records that are yet to come. Since the release of her debut album ‘Call Off The Search’ she has already become one of the most successful singers in Great Britain. Since then, all eight of their previous studio albums have entered the top ten in the UK.

There’s really no reason to assume this will be any different now that her new work “Love & Money” will be released on March 24th. It contains ten tracks in which Melua gives deep insight into what has happened in her life over the past two years. The deluxe edition also contains four bonus songs, including a duet with German lyricist Philipp Boizel.

“Golden Record” is the first take on “Love and Money”. The associated music video celebrates its premiere on ntv.de. Melua can really sing a song about the awards for her music — thus “Golden Record” is also about the advantages and challenges she faces as a woman in her line of work.

“It’s about how everything has changed, what it’s like to be a woman in the music industry, and how weird and lucky I feel to have a job that I’m really addictive,” explains Melua. But at the same time, she has given her private life very little space in the past twenty years, admits the singer, who separated from her husband in 2020 after eight years of marriage. You still enjoy making records and standing on stage. But the lack of a fulfilling relationship and the lack of a family is starting to eat away at her. “When I wrote ‘Golden Record’ it was like I finally made peace with it all,” she says now.
