What’s next for the blue era?

I’ve started writing this almost 25 times since Friday morning. In case you haven’t seen the news, Vox media has made the decision to “pull coverage in some areas.” Vox Media is laying off about seven percent of its workforce with MLS and NHL SBNation sites most affected.

Covenant Blue and other affected sites will become “unsupported”. We understand we have until the end of February, but we still need to see how it plays out. The site may still be active. It is also possible that we will all move to another place.

We understand that pod support will be cut so we are already looking for solutions.

We know that the few people who got paid won’t receive any money after February. No one in the Blue Covenant received any significant compensation. I always referred to my “paycheck” as gas money, and that barely covered that at times. While I didn’t rely heavily on payment, it was such a big hit when I got the email. I felt we were safe because we make so little.

Sometimes it’s your foot and sometimes it’s the ball.

difficulty

When I was in the corporate world and I had a desk, a good cubicle, I had a little rock-like thing on my desk. I got it from some store in a mall that carries different things with inspirational quotes and pictures. Think of a cat on a limb with the words “hang it there” but it’s even more adorable.

In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity. – Albert Einstein

The attribution is probably spurious, it is possible that it was originally John Archibald Wheeler, but that doesn’t really matter now. Whoever the scientist created the quote has been true to me. I believe it and many times I have found a better way when everything seemed to be screwing up.

We can’t tell you what will happen or what it will look like, but I can guarantee we won’t go away. We’ll continue to cover Kansas City football and maybe, just maybe, find something better.

social communication

Word community often gets thrown a little loosely, but The Blue Testament has become a community for Kansas City football fans. We know and care about writers and readers. Two of my family members have passed away over the past few years and outside of the family the only people I’ve really told are the other blue covenant shareholders.

It’s amazing to check out and learn about Blue Testament readers. Reading their opinions on news, jokes, gifs (they look at you like a kid), recipes, vast knowledge and shared life experiences cannot be given away willingly.

When one of our readers was harassed in the comments recently, we each raced with the power of BAN to get rid of them. It is rare for this to happen, but we want our readers to feel safe being here.

The site has been constantly growing, adding writers, centuries, and bands that we have covered. But as we grow, we also focus on quality and community development.

This football community is just too valuable, especially for me, to let it go so far.

to move on

While I can’t speak for everyone on the site, I think most of us will continue here until a better solution is found. We take care of the coverage Sporting Kansas CityKansas City Current, Kansas City Comets, SKC II, and anything Kansas City football. We have a World Cup coming here.

We want to cover those teams. We want to be an alternative voice with different opinions than the team or star accounts.

we will.

If the worst happens and we lose it before we have a new plan, rest assured that we will have a new plan even if we have to start from scratch.

One of my favorite Marvel movie quotes.

Ultron: Doomed!

Vision: Yes.. but the thing is not beautiful because it lasts. It is a great honor to be among them.

I have had the honor of working with the writers and readers of this site.

Stay tuned to this space and our personal Twitter and other social media accounts.

We’ll be foot.
