Who do UK users prefer as their home console?

A recent survey conducted in Great Britain got to the bottom of the question about which system gamers use as their main console. One system in particular stood out.

A few days ago we received the news that the race for the best-selling console of 2022 in Great Britain has ended with a very close result.

Accordingly, the Switch took the title of the most successful console of the year ahead of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S. The bottom line is that the systems in UK sales year 2022 were separated by only 60 thousand units.

The current survey, in which market researchers from Ampere Analysis got to the bottom of the question which platforms would British gamers prefer in the fourth quarter of 2022 as the main platform, was a bit more explicit.

At least the question about the winner of the survey can be answered very clearly. According to Ampere’s analysis, 71 percent of respondents who own a PlayStation 5 disc version said it’s the console they use most often.

The PlayStation 5 Digital Edition drops significantly

While 49 percent of Switch owners reported using a portable hybrid console as their system of choice, that number is 48 percent for the Xbox Series X. Next places is the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition at 43 percent and the Xbox Series S at the bottom, which is Only 35 percent of owners use it as their main console.

According to analysts from Ampere Analysis, the high value of the PlayStation 5 disc release is probably due to the fact that the majority of gamers here apparently don’t have another console. However, this does not fully explain the differences […] between the disc-based PS5 release and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X, its main competitor in the market.”

Ampere Analysis went on to say that winning the poll does not automatically mean the PlayStation 5 is also the most played. On the one hand, according to market researchers, the high value of the PlayStation 5 disc release indicates that Sony Interactive Entertainment’s strategy of connecting users to the platform with high-quality exclusive titles has succeeded.

On the other hand, the Xbox Series consoles could become a serious competitor in terms of time of use in 2023, as many potential first-party highlights will appear with “Starfield”, “Redfall” or “Forza Motorsport”, which will be released from day one. Available on Xbox Game Pass.
